On Aug 6, 2018, Johnson and South University of Science and Technology jointly hosted a lecture where we invited American Attorney Franklin S. Abrams to introduce how to establish a strong intellectual property position for obtaining investment and achieving market success.
Franklin S. Abrams is a partner in the intellectual property law boutique of Springut Law PC, who holds an M.S. in Chemistry and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and a J.D. from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He has over 20 years of legal practice in intellectual property law. And he has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications and drafting opinions concerning patentability of inventions and validity, non-infringement, and enforceability of patents.
In the lecture, three major topics were discussed, including the role of IP in protecting core assets and reputation of companies, strategies for obtaining strong and defensible patent portfolios, as well as how to obtain strong IP positions that attract investment, partnerships ect.
Dr. Franklin recommended to make a patentability search prior to application for reviewing the prior art surrounding your inventions and defining the core technology of your inventions. In addition, application body, especially claims which define scope of patents, is crucial for patents.
